Andrea Muñiz (they/she) is a non-binary Puerto Rican movement artist.
They approach their creative work with curiosity and care, centering the body as the source of information and investigation. Their work is raw and expressive, inviting audiences to witness vulnerability and transformation.

Andrea’s choreography and improvisation have been presented at MELLE’s “WIP”, the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Danza Orgánica’s “We Create Festival”, JP Porch Fest, Big Bang 16, NACHMO Boston and MEET. Andrea is a 2021 and 2023 recipient of the NEFA New England Dance Fund. During the summer of 2023, they hosted Summer Community Contact Jam in Jamaica Plain. They were a 2023-2024 Dance Lab Resident at the Boston Center for the Arts and a 2025 “Rough Drafts” artist. Andrea is a current Next Steps for Boston Dance grant recipient. Andrea is a committed practitioner and facilitator of contact improvisation.

 

They have taught contact improvisation regularly with Contact Improv Boston and facilitated jams and classes at Summer Community Contact and CIJP. Andrea has taught other forms of dance and movement through Midday Movement Series, and Contact Improv Boston. They have served as a Mass Cultural Council Creative Youth Fellow and a 2022 YDW Mentor at Bates Dance Festival.

 

Andrea is known for their captivating presence and dynamic expressive range. As a professional performer, they have had the honor of interpreting the works of Abilities Dance Boston (Ellice Patterson), Aliza Franz, Amelia Estrada, Boston Dance Theater (Itzik Galili), Danza Orgánica (Mar Parilla), Dara Capley, Laila J. Franklin, Ryan Landry/The Gold Dust Orphans (Brianna Scafidi), Juliet Paramor, and Jessi Stegall. As an undergraduate student, Andrea had the experience of performing the works of Robin Aren, Ron K. Brown, YanJun (John) Chin, Tommy Waheed Evans, Alyx Hengiman, Tommy Neblett, Kate Weare, and more. Most recently, Andrea is on tour with Laila Franklin’s BABYBABYBABY.

 

Andrea is an alumna of Andanza Escuela de Danza Contemporánea and a founding member of El Taller Juvenil de Andanza. They hold a B.F.A. in Contemporary Dance Performance from The Boston Conservatory. There, Andrea was touched by the teachings of Kurt Douglas, Diane Arvanities, Olivier Besson, and Daniel McCusker. They have completed additional training at the Bates Dance Festival (ME, USA), Big Bang 16 (MTL, CA), Danza Contemporánea de Cuba (HAV, CU), Earthdance (MA, USA), The Field Center (VT, USA), and TransFormation Danse (MTL, CA).

 

Andrea is also a massage therapist dedicated to creating personalized experiences that promote embodiment and a deep sense of groundedness. They view the body as a holistic expression of the self and specialize in working with individuals who seek to develop their somatic awareness and connection to themselves. They received their formal education at The New England School of Therapeutics, and have been significantly impacted by receiving the somatic healing approaches of Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, and Structural Integration. Bodywork has defined their understanding of anatomy and musculoskeletal efficiency from a healing perspective, which complements their investigations of dance as a transformative practice and the self as a site for inquiry.
